Dear misslikey, it's your 2nd birthday

Dear misslikey,

Yesterday was your 2nd birthday and I was lighting candles again. To celebrate the bond between us. That bond is maybe bit too emotional that when I recently received the bad critiques from dear friend of mine, for one moment he became not so dear of mine. Friend said he doesn’t likey you are too ordinary and tidy, nothing like on the beginning when you were poor little messy brat. Companion also accused me for not transmitting you values of creativity. Partially, he may have said the words of wisdom but I believe that babies are much more wiser than grown ups, so sometimes I just let you have the word. Talking about babies, if somebody told me few years ago that I would rather spend time with little kid than in a room full of clothes, vogues, smokes, surrounded with papers, pretending I am a writer, I would immediately proclaim him as insane. But oh dear Misslikey, you haven’t met my niece. When Lea enters the room, André León Tally could easily become person on hold. Honestly Misslikey, I didn’t have much time because I have to call Lady Gaga all day and ask her to confirm that she ate lot of veggies when she was Baby Gaga. I have to sneak around and find Hello Kitty at different occasions instead of clothes for different occasions. And believe me Misslikey, if you just saw her knocking on piano creating sounds P-P-P—POKA, you wouldn’t be mad cause I am rather hanging with her than with designers.
Talking about designers, seems that these days to be a designer all you need is to have a closet full of vintage clothes, model and Polaroid camera. Then you reproduce clothes and you make a handsome lookbook. And if it’s not to pricey, there is nothing sinful in that cause fashion did become little overrated. Thousand of dollars for a thing that doesn’t have even H of handmade. And we have so many things. I mean why do we need 10 jackets, when we can just put one on ourselves? Or pairs of shoes like we gonna walk 10 lives? Is something deviant in it, or it’s just me making cakes this year?
Know Misslikey, when I said last year in a letter that I am good as dates same as with cooking? This year I made an apple pie and it was actually delicious. When I am under the stress I work in my little garden. When I feel I have to create I make flowerpots. Oh dear, now you probably think when did she become Bree Van der Kamp or Stepford wife, but Misslikey, if it was something this year that gave me inspiration it was one thing that my friend Z taught me: how to not lose a heart in the heart of desert. Whining doesn’t help, acting helps.
You realize now Misslikey, It was truly hard year, but it was also educative and actually, really happy when I think about it now.
When you look yourself into the mirror in small place like one I am living in now, there are few things that you cannot hide and probably most obvious are patience, honesty, and loneliness. Differences among people are biggest when you are not able to choose with whom you will be surrounded. At the beginning you want to do some serious punching in the face and one moment you realize you are most likely to not care. Since the person you are seeing most on the street is you, no one really cares how many social roles you play. Except you. So it’s You that person that wakes up every morning and it’s creator of the day, it is You that has to have a coffee when you don’t have a coffee shop, and it’s You that has to shop when there are no shopping spots. And it’s You that has to be inspired, so it is you that sneaks into the closets full of vintage clothes in your boyfriend house.
Mostly of all dear Misslikey, you realize and you are always learning that most important and the only thing you should or you have to do is to be here and now wherever you are.
And it is You dear reader, which chooses how to spend your precious time. And if it is You that pops here in your spare time to see the new scribble I made, it’s no one else but Me...very grateful to you.

Yours truly,
Nina

Paint It Red

Red color is the warmest color in the spectrum and one of the colors that catches our eye most immediately. If it’s to believe in psychological research, that’s the exact color that should be our seducing tool. Generally, people associate red with love, anger, passion or violence. In politics symbolizes socialism and revolution, on the streets is the warning sign. In China is associated with courage, loyalty, honor, success, fortune, fertility, happiness, passion, and summer. In fashion we are most likely to associate color with Valentino gowns, Marilyn Monroe, Warhol, Halston, Pretty Woman Dior gown, Givenchy on Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face, Louboutin soles, tongue on Rolling Stones tee or Chanel lipstick. Interesting is that on one side can be symbol of tackiness and on the other can make an icon out of femme. Can it be that is sometimes tacky because we will spot the faux pas with the cut, fabric or style of a red outfit faster than that of the black outfit?
This year in fashion, red means that this color found its place on runaway and in the shops. If you just search for the Red on runaway look finders, it will pop out more than thousand images and it varies from tones of orange, terracotta, jazzy and Bordeaux.
Some of designers had idea of complete femme fatale till some were just coquettish with the reddish prints. Altuzarra and Nanette Lepore, with red velvet dressed 21st century Vampirella and edgy Maria Antoinette, while Givenchy with a red suit dressed a hot businesswoman. Balmain and Isabel Marant let the red leather pants down the runaway, Ronson was playing with the red a la thrift shop and Jiri Mendel made of it charming pleated dresses. Yigal Azrouël find the perfect balance of bright red, which we cannot state for many designer. Lot of them wished that Valentine’s Day lives whole year, so the coats and small leather goods in red overwhelmed the runaway. Is someone out there trying to squeeze into more and more catwalk reports? Thanks God no one was painting fur in the red. No matter, I loved Oscar de la Renta pea coat with fur-trimmed hemline that reminds on coat Holly Golightly was wearing while trying to purchase a gift for 10$ at Tiffany’s.
So if you are not sure whether you fancy the red this season or how to dose it properly keep it minimalistic. If you won’t shop the red carried away with invasion, good old T-Shirt in red will do enough for ladylike or military combination on jeans. Or your dress can sometimes peep out of your black coat, like on Margaret Howell runaway. But if you'll experiment, you are blessed with supply of reddish goods everywhere you turn.

Model behavior; New York Fashion Week

With the beginning of fashion season in New York, our excitement to see how our favorite designers see the image of next summer is growing. With new trends, equally we are excited to see all the street style photos or maybe found us in street style section on our favorite fashion blog. Also if we didn’t see them in personal, we want to know around which models was buzz this season, so on the forums on fashion spot soon some member will count how many shows each model opened, closed or appeared in.
Fashion week is very stressful time of the year for a model. Running from show to show demands good flats, fittings comfortable clothes and cameras around demand that they are always looking like having fun. Not mentioning the after parties they have to attend. Maybe that casualness about style of models is probably a reason why backstage or street photos became our cultural ritual and exits after the show stalking places. And most of us would ignore the stress and the tension that these beautiful girls are going through and immediately trade places with them- just think of all beautiful clothes, parties and gift in clothes. And they get a paycheck. We would volunteer!

Back to greysis

Now that we are slightly slipping into a fall season, we are starting with revision of our closets. Ethereal questions, as What to keep, what to buy, what to put into the buffer and what to threw away or do a DIY instead, can cause a certain nervosa especially if your budget is weak. In this situation might be correct that statement of mighty Anna that there is something about fashion that can make people very nervous. I bet fashion a la Wintour would make a lot of us nervous, but in our own home and own closet there is no need for that. So you can a) panic and commit a impractical things-shopping act or b) you can take a deep breath and realize; Yes, there are so many lovely things screaming out there waiting for me to save them and wear them but I have to keep my coolness and If I cannot afford certain items, I’ll have to decide rationally what is my priority on to buy list. And I don’t want anymore to buy things that I’ll wear jut once or not even once.
So here on misslikey this fall you and I will both find some inspiration or suggestions how to look lovely in the fall and to feel satisfied with a little. With few new things and little creativity you can bring refreshment to your closet and items that you were wearing in the past seasons. Needlessly concourse and insane shopping are totally passé.

We are starting this smart fall with the sweaters. Though hot right now are those a little inflated and cropped, long sweaters are never out of fashion. And I am kind a melancholic lately for good old grey. Turn them in sweater dresses and wear with tights (not leggings), if they are not long enough wear white long tank under. If you are in DIY mood you can cut the sleeves (only if you are on personal with sewing machine), add a few brown buttons and turn it into a “real” dress (look upon the captain dress from Karen Walker).
If you are going to shop I suggest beautiful sweater dresses from Laurence Pasquier (for Aussies), Won Hundred, Ulla Johnson (also has a great grey sweatpants in collection) and Karen Walker. If you wish to start knitting visit Wool and the gang.
