spring and the shoe

Have you noticed how birds are chirping different in this time of year? Is it possible that these little sky creatures are more joyful because of the spring in the air? Air that smells like bubblegum is filled with so many tender sounds that are catching every moment to melt with flamboyant nature, so who to blame if all you want is little laughing in the grass. On days like these don’t be surprised if it’s something like petite flower enough to make you jolly. It’s the time of the long walks and balmy nights, sunsets with coffee while your hair swings carried upon easy breeze. Our friends, Mrs. light dress, Mr. trench coat and Miss small jacket will finally see the rays of light. Instead of the winter shoes it’s time for slipping into something new. Who is gonna be your walking partner for this time of year? Did you already pick your spring shoes? My heart is happier cause my ballet flats will finally see the sunshine. But I have to decide which lover will join my collection. With classic black suede ballerinas with a bow I have a quirky backup that will fit into my spring vision of edgy Lolita; robin’s egg blue ballerinas with a bow. I bought them on sale cause it was too harsh to resist the factor of three; soft as the gloves, price of few pennies, and shopman that was kind of sad. I have a big plan for them; they will join my troupe of plain petite tank dresses with elastic waist and embellished neckline. Well I have one more pair; my daily ballet flats but those two little orphans look so homeless that it was unpleasant feeling to capture them.
Hmm...so the candidates for the future lover are these three lovelies. Possible lover No.1 are these nude ballet flats. They are bit above the budget but they are super elegant. And I have a thing for a t-strap since I first saw Marianne Faithfull’s feet. Lover No.2 is also adorable since I am obsessed with stars lately and fabric after all the enlarging looks extremely soft. Lover No.3 are Maryjane with a bow, Marais invention, and the model that is for second time on misslikey's decision plan. They are just too cute. And made of satin.
So it’s pretty hard to decide whom to choose from these three possible lovers. Freedom is when you think about it, not the best feeling in the world for girls that are not on personal with decisions.
But I will decide. Yes. I can. I am enough mature to make a decision. For the God’s sake those are only the shoes. It’s not that I am picking the house. Anyway. We’ll see….
If I could only have them all! Well, it’s not that I am hopeless case, am I?

Coveted Closets

After we’ve seen a lot of street stalking of people in fashion, now was the time to get into their  cribs and closets. After brilliant The Selby, talented Backyard Bill and occasional sneak peaks from refinery29 people, internetland is richer for one more chic stalking source. Here comes The Coveteur, new site launched in 2011 that brings candies from wardrobe of our favorite fashion insiders and street style stars. The brains behind this project are stylist Stephanie Mark and our favorite eco-friendly Canadian designer Erin Kleinberg. Jake Rosenberg is the one that captures all that girls notice. Coveteur is all about images of clothes, but also team captures many details of apartments, so on this pages inspiration won’t find just the girls whose bible is Vogue but also those that proudly believe in Apartment Therapy and Martha Stewart. Every single photo is spiced up with a description and a comment of the owner.
So you will see how many Lanvin bags owns Mary Kate Steinmiller and that Karla Martinez from W Magazine has a thing for Miu Miu kitties. While Harley Viera Newton possesses impressive sunglasses collection, Tracy Taylor has fulfilled the dream of every girl that loves fashion- shoe boxes with polaroids and tags. Joanna Hillman, market editor at Harper’s Bazaar has a leopard Mulberry bag that sleeps on the chair every night. Girls from Who What Wear are surely enjoying in their beautiful sunny Californian apartments (oh oh and oh for Hillary Kerr’s dresses). Also you can take a virtual tour together with Coveteur and Teen Vogue to showrooms of designers Thakoon Panichgul and Chris Benz. Where they keep their CFDA awards and archive collections?
Bookmark a day for surf! If it’s just one enough!

People, Places & Fashion; Zagreb, Croatia

PLACE
Best time to feel the full charm of this city is early springtime. It has to be enough warm for the walking because there are plenty things to see. In these spring days when you wander through the streets everything around you shines, and the one that is guilty for that is sun that is reflecting from buildings built in secession, neo-baroque and renaissance style. This charming architecture surely brings a spirit of some past eras while you fully enjoy in advantages of modern time. So it’s not losing of time if you grab a coffee and place yourself somewhere on the bench in one of the lovely Zagreb’s parks. Even if you don’t bring a book with you, you won’t be disappointed. Between the Upper Town walks, take a break with something delicious like Zagorski strukli (cheese phyllo pastry) or if it’s too warm with an ice cream in one of the Vincek patisseries. The most cheerful bars in the city are placed downtown (one of them is charming small Alcatraz). For a daily dose of culture, visit numerous Zagreb museums (currently at Museum of Art and Crafts is Art Deco exhibition) and hang around SC where you will find out where are interesting exhibitions, performances and concerts in the city.

FASHION
Fashion scene in Zagreb is still emerging, but has a potential to grow. The city has three fashion weeks and I saw one, organized by Fashion.hr community. Besides fashion week, it was organized some kind of expo where local designers and their crew presented clothes. Hand painted sneakers named Shuz, and lovely dresses made by Swedish designer Valerie Aflalo caught my eye. These Shuz sneakers are not exactly the kind of sneakers that a girl wears for running- with details as bows, lace and ribbons they can easily become your favorite shoes for romantic walks.
During three-day long fashion week, I saw many collections from Croatian designers and I was most impressed by Donassy house. The designer, Branka Donassy, except is specialized in custom-made and prêt-a-porter fashion, also is a costume and film designer. Donassy’s collection was real, well-rounded fall collection with beautiful coats, practical trousers and dresses. Silhouette was aesthetic but feminine with fine avant-garde details. And all the pieces were very well tailored and made of very quality fabrics. Also I found charming the collection of young designer Aleksandra Dojcinovic that was all about the romance, details, chiffon and quirky colorful shoes.

PEOPLE
Just like the rest of the Europe, people in Zagreb pay a lot of attention to fashion. On the fashion week, bloggers and journalists were the best dressed. So I have to mention lovely Ana from Little Fashion Paradise and Fashion.hr journalist that was totally boho romantic in polka dots shirt, leather skirt and suede heels. Also there’s my dear friend Tina and her sister Lea that run blog Style & Coffee. They both looked very refined and French, one in beige sweater over the long skirt, covered with parka and the other one in leather pants and striped tee with little lace vest. And Marko, journalist at Fashion.hr and blogger is I believe the most chic man in Croatia. Also I met Matea, girl that writes very interesting blog Enchanted Gardens and except that is super lovely is super cute.

Paris fashion week fall 2011

Chloé bows
Hannah MacGibbon continues to follow her sense for design and style of beloved Chloé, but from time to time she tries to awake classic Chloé woman to experiment more with bit eccentric pieces. So this time she did that with snakeskin. So after the Sally bag it was about the time to add a little of dressy snake to the dress, even if moments that typical Chloé girl would love are casual leather coat in A cut, luxurious but elegant chiffon and all the pants, blouses and bows. This time even on shoes. Bravo Hannah!
Cacharel nude and eclectic blues
Cacharel super aesthetic sixties shape in nude, neutral tones matched perfectly with eclectic blue eye shadow on Cédric Charlier’s models. Super floral prints of Cacharel showed once again that what is Liberty to UK, Cacharel is to France.
Nina’s Lolita
Peter Copping had to cope with Theyskens heritage left at Ricci. I mean all the princess letters from Upper East Side? I believe it’s hard, but Peter has enough experience, talent and knowledge to fit in. Once again he proved that. In middle of dark tones, he breaks the monotony with super polished Lolita that adores suit and all the classy things in fragile colors. After that he brings back the serious romance with items like lavish velvet coat! Hopelessly romantic!
Dries Divine
When you see all those dresses, prints, textures, shoes, pants and glasses, you start to feel something towards Dries Van Noten himself. And I believe I am not the only one.
Givenchy details
Bejeweled flowers, violets, panthers, Bettie Page, 90s Versace inspired chains. Everything together! So you come to idea that is wrong to think that everyone has talent for everything. To make a wearable collection and to keep your artistic nature you have to have a talent. And Riccardo Tisci possesses enormous one. He makes me to pull the pencil skirt out of my closet and wear it all fall long.
Lovable Lanvin
Braided ponytails under oversized hats, quirky headdresses, extravagant dresses that bring the real picture of Paris fashion from the last century when fashion show was really something that was unrealistic, divine and glamorous beyond belief. I bet Jeanne-Marie Lanvin would be proud on Mr Elbaz.
Miu Miu and glittery
It would be nonsense not to mention the impact that Miuccia Prada has on today’s trends and many designers. That is confirmed not only by rise of sale but the fact the Miu Miu became one of the most copied brands among mass-market retailers. Sister label of Prada that is from its beginnings all about bright colors, prints, details, playful and girly character, for the last few seasons is increasing its audience. Does that mean that we become happier? Or we need that dose of happiness in rough times like these?
Valentino Virus
…And I am seriously affected by it. Valentino’s team is one of the best things that happened to fashion world lately. Valentino collections cause such a delight, that I am speechless when it comes to describing. Is it enough to say that I want to be BBBF(best but best friend) of Chiuri and Piccioli?
Véronique’s nerdy secretary
So in what should office girl invest for the next fall? Leather skirt, knitted tent dress, something in mint color, turtleneck sweater, tweed dress and good coat in creamy color tones. And yes she would look just charming but austere with sleek ponytail, graphic jewelry and glasses. Say thanks to Véronique Leroy. Not me.

surviving fashion

....At beginning of fashion week
First aid. Must haves are pack of gum, bottle of water/juice, coffee and schedule. Band-aid if you wear heels. Sunglasses if you are timid. Notebook if you take notes. Mobile charger if you talk too much. Aspirin if you get bored easily.
....And après fashion week
At least two days for rest, something cozy and chic as Samantha Pleet jumpsuits, nice cup of tea, book, vitamin C. Something funny as Woody Allen and warm as Secret Garden. And something called couch.

Cartoon lover and vintage obsessed Topshop girl styled by Katie Grand! Recipe for success! Enough!
2. Daks nonchalance in classic
It’s the third time for British house Daks on London Fashion Week and designer Filippo Scuff showed what he and Daks know the best; classic, menswear items with feminine twist and nonchalant Brit chic.
3. A hat & a shoe moment at Margaret Howell
One more designer that is synonym for relaxed traditional clothing, this season showed what she does best.
4.Fringe moment at James Long (Fashion East)
He really knows knitwear. And rock.
5. Kinder Aggugini fragile silhouette
Kinder Aggugini dresses were feminine and very simple in basic colors like white and black paired with quirky hairstyle or few headdresses (designer worked at Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano). And who could resist to that floral parka?
6. Bow at Giles

7. Patti Smith moment at Paul Smith
Of all interpreters of Patti Smith and Just Kids this year on fashion weeks, I think Paul Smith’s Patti is most charming. Why? Cause she played with polka dots, blouses and great bags. Is it because of PS?
